Hair Science
Branding and sustainable packaging concept
Hair Science is a concept built from an assignment in a class at the Kansas City Art Institute called Human Centered Design.
The beauty and hair-care industries are full of products that have ingredients like tar, microplastics, and sulfites which are harmful to people as well as everything else, causing pollution and are linked to a variety of cancers.
So… what about Hair Science?
Hair Science is a concept hair-care brand emphasizing good for you, all sustainable ingredients and packaging, keeping true to being truly harmless. The boxes would be made from recycled paper, mint, and hemp compressed cardboard which degrades back into compost in a little over a week. In most shampoo and conditioner formulas silicon and tar as thickening and smoothing agents, in their place agar-agar, vegan gelatin, works well and can be powdered for bath bombs and detergents. Instead of BPA pump bottles, glass and metal pour bottles can be reused and recycled.
Hair Science explores the idea of design by any means necessary. For this project, I journeyed through deep research about health and sustainability and learned new methods to approach design in a wholesome, holistic way by making cardboard from the plants near me (like mint from my backyard) hemp fibers, and recycled scraps of paper.
Concept
Research the pain points of the CPG world and create a hair-care brand focused on health, happiness, and sustainability.
